An update has been made to the just-weeks old Java SE 6 Update 21 to help clear up the issue of incompatibility with Eclipse and Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP) programs. Reportedly the issue arose from the company name property on java.exe being changed from 'Sun Microsystems, Inc' to 'Oracle'. Eclipse users should be forewarned that this name change will become a permanent part of JDK 7 when it is released.

Jaspersoft conducted a survey of its 130,000 registered users and customers to determine the perception of how MySQL and Java programming language could be expected to fare under Oracle's stewardship. Given the importance of both technologies to the future of open source, Jaspersoft thought the survey would provide some indication of user attitudes toward open source trends in the enterprise. The July 2010 Oracle Critical Patch Update (CPU) contains 59 new security fixes across all of Oracle's product families, including 21 new fixes affecting Oracle Sun products. Former Sun technologies patched in this update are Solaris/OpenSolaris, Sun Java System Web Proxy Server, Sun Convergence, Access Manager/OpenSSO, Solaris Studio, and Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server/Sun Java System Application Server. According to Oracle, seven of these 21 vulnerabilities may be remotely exploitable without authentication, meaning they may be exploited over a network without the need for a username and password.

Opera is a web browser and Internet suite that is offered free of charge for personal computers and mobile phones. Although support for Solaris was dropped this spring, an example of using Opera as a Sun Ray Webkiosk browser was recently detailed. The assignment called for a Sun Ray client to offer Web browsing without access to the desktop operating system, and to reset after periods of inactivity. Oracle is anticipating it will complete migration of relevant content from developers.sun.com, java.sun.com, and BigAdmin to the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) site on July 19.
